About Me

Infrastructure, not just interfaces.

The story behind the code — who I am and what drives my work.

Portrait of Bakki Mahesh
Cloud & DevOps Engineer @ GKLT

I break things on purpose in a test environment so they never break in production. I'm a cloud and DevOps engineer, AWS-certified (Solutions Architect – Associate and Cloud Practitioner), and I spend most of my time turning "it works on my machine" into infrastructure that scales, recovers, and deploys itself.

My hands-on work is where the learning actually happened. On the ManaKrishi platform I built the real-time telemetry backend for drone-based crop spraying, streaming live flight data from the field to operator dashboards over WebSockets. I designed a secure, multi-AZ three-tier VPC on AWS using Terraform, separating web, app and database tiers behind an Application Load Balancer. I containerized services with Docker and automated builds and deployments through GitHub Actions, so shipping a change went from a manual chore to a single push.

Along the way I've hardened Linux servers, written IAM policies that follow least-privilege, and provisioned EC2, S3, RDS, VPC and Route 53 across several projects. My background is Electronics and Communication Engineering, which is where I got comfortable with networks, hardware and systems thinking before I ever touched the cloud. Right now I'm going deeper on Kubernetes and observability.

What I Do

From provisioning to production

The capabilities I bring to every system I build and run.

Cloud Infrastructure

Provisioning and running workloads on AWS — VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, and Route 53.

Infrastructure as Code

Terraform modules that make an environment reproducible instead of hand-clicked.

CI/CD Automation

GitHub Actions pipelines that build, test, and deploy on every push.

Containerization

Docker images and compose stacks that behave the same everywhere they run.

Linux & Networking

Server hardening, firewall rules, SSH policy, routing, and Nginx in front.

Security & IAM

Least-privilege IAM policies, security groups, and isolated subnet design.

Full Stack Development

End-to-end web applications with Next.js, Node.js, and modern databases.

Monitoring & Reliability

Health checks, logs, and metrics — so a failure is noticed before a user reports it.

I break things on purpose in a test environment so they never break in production.

The journey so far

From electronics fundamentals to provisioning and running infrastructure in production.

  1. 2024 — Present Current

    Tech Lead

GKLT Global Solutions Pvt Ltd Hyderabad, India

Owning cloud infrastructure and delivery across client projects — most substantially the ManaKrishi drone-agritech platform.

    • Built the real-time telemetry backend linking drone transponders to operator dashboards over WebSockets on AWS EC2, streaming live flight data from the field during spray operations
    • Designed and deployed a secure multi-tier VPC — isolated subnets, security groups, and least-privilege IAM — to protect farmer records and IoT data streams
    • Automated build and deployment with GitHub Actions, removing manual release steps and shortening the cycle from change to production
    • Own architecture decisions and code review standards across the team
    • Coordinate delivery across mobile, backend, and cloud, bridging hardware concepts with cloud operations

  2. 2023 — 2024

    Cloud & Full Stack Developer

    Independent / GKLT Remote

Shipped production applications end-to-end and moved client workloads onto infrastructure that could be rebuilt on demand.

    • Deployed high-availability three-tier AWS architectures — web, app, and multi-AZ database behind an Application Load Balancer
    • Provisioned client infrastructure with Terraform as reusable, version-controlled modules instead of console clicks
    • Containerized full-stack services with Docker and standardized deployments across environments via GitHub Actions
    • Hardened Linux instances — firewall rules, SSH key policy, routing, and security groups — to reduce exposed attack surface
    • Built marketplace and operations platforms end-to-end (Prolance, VisaEnsure)
    TerraformDockerAWSLinuxNginxNext.jsMongoDB
  3. 2022 — 2023Self-study

    Cloud & Linux Deep Dive

    Self-directed study

A focused year on the fundamentals underneath the cloud — Linux administration, networking, and core AWS services.

    • Earned cloud and networking certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP, CCNA, Juniper)
    • Deployed first production workloads to AWS
    • Learned Linux server administration, routing, and Nginx as a reverse proxy
    LinuxNginxAWSNetworking
  4. 2019 — 2023Education

    B.Tech, Electronics & Communication Engineering

    Engineering College, India

Where networks, hardware, and systems thinking became familiar — long before any of it moved to a cloud console.

    • Led college tech events and hackathon teams
    • Built IoT and web projects including a drone-assisted agri prototype
    • Won hackathon recognition for applied engineering

Capabilities

What I build, and how

Four layers, from the VPC underneath to the application on top — each shipped through the same loop.

AWS

Cloud Infrastructure

Designing and running workloads on AWS — multi-AZ VPCs with isolated web, app and database tiers, load balancing, and DNS that fails over instead of falling over.

  • VPC, subnet & routing design
  • EC2, S3, RDS provisioning
  • Load balancing & health checks
  • Least-privilege IAM policies
Terraform

Infrastructure as Code

Environments defined in Terraform rather than assembled by hand in a console — so they can be reviewed in a pull request, torn down, and rebuilt identically.

  • Reusable Terraform modules
  • Version-controlled environments
  • Reproducible rebuilds
  • Documented variables & outputs
GitHub Actions

CI/CD & Containers

Docker images that behave the same on a laptop and in production, wired into GitHub Actions pipelines that build, test and deploy on every push.

  • Dockerized services
  • GitHub Actions pipelines
  • Automated build & test gates
  • Repeatable, rollback-safe deploys
Next.js

Full-Stack Development

The application layer that runs on top — Next.js and Node.js services with REST APIs, authentication, and data models designed for the queries they actually serve.

  • Next.js / React frontends
  • Node.js & Express APIs
  • MongoDB & PostgreSQL schemas
  • Auth and access control
The loop
  1. Plan & design

Requirements become an architecture before anything is provisioned — network boundaries, security groups, and failure modes decided on paper first.

  2. Provision as code

Infrastructure goes in as Terraform, not console clicks. It gets reviewed like application code and can be rebuilt from scratch at any time.

  3. Automate delivery

Services are containerized and shipped through a pipeline. Build, test and deploy run on every push, so releasing stops being an event.

  4. Observe & iterate

Health checks, logs and metrics go in from day one — so a failure surfaces on a dashboard rather than in a user's message, and rollback is one step.

Then back to the top — every change runs the same loop

Always Learning

What I'm exploring now

A developer's edge is curiosity — here's where mine is pointed.

DevOps

Kubernetes

Moving past single-host Docker — pods, services, deployments, and when orchestration is actually worth it.

SRE

Observability

Metrics, logs, and traces that answer "what broke and why" instead of just "something broke".

Cloud

Cloud Architecture

Designing resilient multi-service systems on AWS — VPC layouts, autoscaling, and cost optimization.

IaC

Terraform at Scale

Remote state, workspaces, and reusable modules for infrastructure that more than one person can touch.

Systems

Linux Internals

systemd, networking, and process management — the layer everything else in the stack sits on.

Architecture

System Design

Scalability fundamentals — caching, queues, sharding, and designing for failure.
